x4u is made by one developer and supported by patrons. Join to download it for Windows, macOS and Linux, and every update after, each with its notes on what's new.
What you need
Windows
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. ffmpeg is included.
macOS
A recent macOS, with ffmpeg from Homebrew (brew install ffmpeg).
Linux
A 64-bit desktop or server. ffmpeg is included.
Plus a free StashDB account, so x4u can name your videos, and room for thumbnails and previews: a few gigabytes for ten thousand videos.
Getting started
- Download and unzipPut the folder wherever you like. Nothing is installed.
- Start x4uOn Windows, double-click x4u.exe (if Windows says it protected your PC, choose More info, then Run anyway). On macOS and Linux, run
./x4u. Your library opens in the browser. - Add your foldersx4u finds every video in them and gets to work in the background. You can watch anything straight away.
- Add your StashDB keyCopy it from your StashDB profile into Settings, and x4u names your scenes, performers and studios.
x4u keeps running by the clock (on Windows and Linux) and can start when you sign in. It never changes, moves or deletes your videos.
Updating
Each new version is posted on Patreon with what's changed. Quit x4u, replace the folder with the new one, and start it again; your library carries on as it was, and x4u keeps a copy of it from before the upgrade. See What's new for the latest.
