Watch VR porn on a Quest, from your own PC

Your VR videos live on your computer; your Quest is in your hands. This is how to play them in the headset, over your own Wi-Fi, at full quality, with no files copied onto the headset and no app to sideload.

What you need

Copying videos onto the headset works too, but 8K scenes run to tens of gigabytes each and a Quest's storage fills fast. Streaming from your computer keeps the whole collection a click away, with its covers, performers and where you left off.

Set up, once

  1. Install x4u on your computerAdd the folders your videos are in, and a StashDB key to name them. x4u reads and identifies them in the background.
  2. Let other devices inIn x4u, turn on Settings → Other devices, and set a PIN. It lists the addresses to open on other devices, including secure (https) ones for a headset.
  3. Open the secure address in the Quest's browserHeadsets only play VR on secure pages, so use an https address from that list. The first time, the browser warns that the connection isn't private: x4u makes its own certificate, as no public one covers a home network.
  4. Install x4u's certificate, to stop the warningSettings → Other devices gives the certificate's address. Open it in the Quest's browser, then install the downloaded file as a CA certificate in the headset's settings, under Security, Encryption and credentials.
  5. Bookmark it, and enter the TheatreEnter the Theatre is in x4u's sidebar; any VR scene also has its own Enter VR button.

Watching

The Theatre opens with your library on a curved wall: For you, Continue watching, Favourites, Newest and your playlists. Point at a cover to see its preview, pull the trigger to play it, and it starts where you left off.

While it plays there's only the video. Point at nothing and pull the trigger (or press B or Y) to bring up the controls below you, the scene on your right and what's up next on your left. A or X plays and pauses; the thumbstick skips ten seconds, or jumps between marked moments. Hold the grip and move your hand to turn or tilt the picture, and x4u remembers it for that scene. Your hands work too: pinch to point and press.

See the x4u Theatre for everything it does.

VR formats

x4u recognises 180° and 360° videos, side by side or top and bottom, and fisheye, from StashDB's tags and the shape of the picture, and plays them at the file's full quality. 8K at 60 fps plays on a Quest 3S without dropping frames.

If it guesses wrong, change the format under More while you watch: 180, 360 or fisheye, side by side or top and bottom, or swap the eyes. SexLikeReal's passthrough videos are recognised by their frames and play with the performer cut out into your room.

Flat videos play too, on a big curved screen.

Smooth playback over Wi-Fi

If something's wrong

There's no Enter VR button, or it says to open securely

The page is on a plain http address. Open one of the https addresses from Settings → Other devices instead.

The browser warns that the connection isn't private

Install x4u's certificate on the headset (step 4 above). Until then you can carry on past the warning; the connection is still encrypted.

The video looks doubled, or the eyes feel wrong

Change the format under More: side by side or top and bottom, 180 or 360, or swap the eyes. x4u remembers your choice for that scene.

The headset can't find the address

Check both are on the same network, that Settings → Other devices is on, and that your computer's firewall lets x4u in (Windows may ask the first time).
