2. Add your folders
Point x4u at your videos; it reads and names them in the background.
The first screen asks where your videos are. Add each folder that holds them; folders inside it come along too. You can add and remove folders later in Settings → Folders.
x4u then works through every video in the background. It reads each one, takes its fingerprint, asks StashDB what it is, and makes a thumbnail and a short preview. The bar at the top of the page shows how far it's got.
- You can watch anything straight away. Videos fill in with names and covers as x4u reaches them.
- The first time takes a while: minutes for a small library, hours for a big one, mostly making previews. After that only new videos need it, and x4u looks for them when it starts and every hour.
- Your computer stays usable. x4u runs at most two tools at once, at low priority, and goes quiet when it's done.
Moving from another computer? Choose to restore from a file on the first screen, with a library file from x4u there (Settings → Backups → Download library file). It brings the previews and pictures too, so nothing is made again.
